Standard Grade Timber has the following characteristics on the exposed surface

Tight gum veins Quartersawn: surface width measured across feature, not exceeding 5mm

Backsawn:
- extent across face unlimited
- surface width measured across the feature, not exceeding 60mm
- individual length, not exceeding 1 m
- Depth not exceeding 2mm


Loose gum veins Not one surface to another

Not intersecting an end

Surface width measured across the feature, not exceeding 3mm

Agg. Length not exceeding 1/5 of the length of the piece


Gum pockets, latex pockets and overgrowth injury Not one surface to another

Surface width measured across the feature, not exceeding 10mm

Length not exceeding 50mm

Depth not exceeding 2mm when backsawn


Knot checks Width not exceeding 2mm
Checks other then internal Width not exceeding 2mm
