General Information

Timber is graded according to AS 2796 Timber - Hardwood – Sawn and Milled Products including AS2796-1 Product Specification and AS2796-2 Grading specification.

ORDER QUANTITY
NRT recommends that you allow an extra 5 – 10% when you order your timber to account for wastage when cutting timber to size and laying in specific areas.

PROFILE
Northern Rivers Timber flooring is manufactured to a secret nail, double dressed profile and end matched for ease of installation. All flooring is 19mm thick with widths available including 60mm, 80mm and 130mm. Decking is manufactured to a pencil round or square edge profile and is available in 65mm, 85mm and 135mm.

TOLERANCE
NRT flooring standards provide a width tolerance of +/- 0.3mm and a thickness tolerance of + / - 0.5mm. NRT decking standards provide a width tolerance of +/- 0.5mm and a thickness tolerance of +/- 0.5mm.

RANDOM LENGTHS
Unless otherwise specified lengths will vary from 900mm to 6m. If you require set lengths please discuss your requirements with our sales representative prior to manufacture.

PACKAGING
All timber is delivered in slings of approximately 6 metres in length and are wrapped in plastic to protect from the elements. Each sling is identified with a sticker indicating size, species, quantity and grade.

It is normal for each sling to contain short pieces of timber and pieces that are not end matched. These have been used as packing to ensure the sling is supported throughout the transportation process. These pieces have not been included in the metres produced for your order.

MOISTURE CONTENT
Moisture content is guaranteed between 9% and 14% to suit most Australian climates as per AS 2796.1. Air conditioning can affect the equilibrium moisture content which can cause gaps to appear between floorboards. If air conditioning is to be used continuously, for example, in commercial settings, serious consideration must be given to acclimatisation. If specific timber moisture requirements are required, these should be discussed before manufacture.

ACCLIMATISATION
Acclimatisation is process by which a board’s moisture content reaches the moisture content of the room/site. It is imperative that timber boards are given the opportunity to acclimatise prior to installation to avoid unnecessary shrinking and gapping. It should be noted that timber is a natural product and therefore will constantly change to its environment, acclimatisation simply aims to minimize these changes.
General guidelines:
- Install boards after lock up stage when site is weather proof and wet trades have been completed.
- Provide adequate sub floor ventilation
- Consider the conditions expected in the long term service of the building.
- Will air conditioning be used onsite.
- When laying over concrete slabs ensure concrete is dry according to recommended levels.

COLOUR VARIATION
It is normal for your timber flooring to vary in colour. Colours are typically described in creams, reds and browns. Many species in these colour ranges can vary from lights to darks. When choosing your timber it is important to be aware of the colour range together with your intended application.
