Floating floors can generally be installed as DIY by a competent handy-person, but we also offer Supply and Install Packages.
Floating Floors
A Floating Floor is actually a method of installing a floor rather than a specific type of flooring material.
Unlike hardwood floors, which need to be nailed down to the sub-floor, with floating floors the individual planks or boards attach to each other and literally "float" over the existing floor.
One advantage of the floating floor method of installation is it allows for the floor to move and expand in response to changes in a room's humidity and when installed with the appropriate acoustic underlay, floating floors generally comply with all BCA requirements for sound.
The term floating floor covers several different products such as Engineered Floors, Bamboo Flooring and Laminate Flooring.
Engineered Flooring
Engineered Timber Flooring is very strong, pre-coated natural timber of approximately 4mm of solid timber. This hardwood layer is glued to a base of cross laminated ply-boards for strength and dimensional stability.
The product can be laid over virtually any base, provided it's flat and structurally sound. Because they are pre-finished they are extremely stable with a hard wearing surface, and they come in a range of species giving attractive colours and can be laid by the average handy person.
The overall thickness of Engineered Flooring can range from 10mm to 15mm and can be laid in several ways with the most common being "floated" over underlay, with a bead of glue between the tongue and groove.
Engineered Floors generally come in 1 and 3 strip, which basically describes the board widths.

Our strand woven bamboo has a 14 Janka rating (hardness) which rates as high as some of the hardest of all our timbers.
Strand woven bamboo flooring is made up of bamboo fibers that are tightly compressed together under high pressure and bound with adhesive. Among the different types of bamboo, strand woven bamboo flooring bears the most resemblance to the grain look of standard hardwood flooring.

Laminate flooring is type of flooring made of a laminate material. Laminate flooring is made to look like timber, yet is made up synthetic materials.
Laminate flooring is a surface layer of two thin sheets of paper impregnated with melamine. This surface layer is a photograph of wood grain, not real wood, and is usually covered by a hard transparent layer.
Under the wood-grain photograph is about a half-inch of wood-chip composite.
Laminate flooring is not only durable it is also scuff, stain, scratch and burn resistant.
